BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team continued their dominating streak to start 2014 with another sweeping 3-0 victory this time over the Loyalist Lancers on Sunday afternoon in Belleville.

After a tight first set win by a 25-23 score, Georgian controlled the play the next two sets with matching scores of 25-16.

Allison Marshall (Orillia) had a team-high 13 points while teammate Erin McClean (Barrie) had another strong performance scoring 10 points.

The Grizzlies have not dropped a single set since the start of the new year while winning the Adidas Cup hosted by Durham College and now two straight OCAA regular season games.

Now holding a 9-2 record on the season, the Grizzlies have shown they are among the OCAA's elite teams this season, just a half game back of the division leading Seneca Sting and Trent Excalibur who the Grizzlies will meet in the next couple of weeks.

The men's team didn't have the same fortunes as the women.

Losing the first set to Loyalist by a 26-24 score, the Grizzlies responded with two straight set wins 25-20 and 25-23.

Looking to close out the match the Grizzlies weren't able to prevent a Lancers late surge dropping the set 25-20 and in the tiebreaker Georgian fell flat losing the final set 15-6 and the match 3-2.

Lyndon Sonego had an impressive afternoon for Georgian scoring a game-high 22 points. The second-year Barrie native now leads the OCAA in points with 185 on the season. Teammate Jason Grim (Orangeville) also had a strong game with 16 points.

The Grizzlies have now dropped two straight games and have fallen below the .500 mark for the first time since the first week of the season with a 5-6 record.

Both the men's and women's teams will continue their road swing when they travel to Peterborough to face the Fleming Knights and Trent Excalibur this weekend. The Grizzlies will play their next home game on Friday, Jan. 24 when they host the Seneca Sting at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
