SENECA 3, CANADORE 2

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Canadore Panthers women's varsity volleyball team lost to the first place Seneca Sting team in five sets today in the Education Centre gymnasium.

Scores were 25-21, 25-16, 22-25, 15-25, 10-15 in favour of Seneca.

Canadore's top scorer was Liza Grennon with 25 points.

Knowing that the Sting were in first place in the East, the Panthers came out swinging to start the game and won the first two sets. In the third set, however, the Sting came back strong and were able to win the next two sets forcing a fifth set. The Canadore ladies were the first to eight points but after they switched sides, they lost their momentum and Seneca won with a score of 15-10.

Canadore head coach Stefanie Hancock said, "Overall, I'm impressed with how hard the girls worked, especially considering that Seneca is the first place team in the East. But sometimes working hard isn't as efficient as running a solid system. We got caught out of position too many times causing unforced errors and Seneca capitalized on them."

In Grennon's 25 points, she managed to serve six aces against the Sting, and was given the title of Player of the Game. She commented on how the girls played today. "I think that's the best that we've ever played. I think our team hit a peak that we have never hit before but in the third set, we let them back in it and with a strong team like Seneca, they'll take advantage of that opportunity and that's what happened today. But we're definitely looking forward to meeting them in the future."
