REDEEMER 3, ALGONQUIN 1

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Redeemer Royals women's volleyball team is headed back to the OCAA provincial championship. The Lady Royals won their qualifying match on Saturday afternoon to advance them to the Final 8 championship set to go next weekend.

The Lady Royals knocked off the Algonquin Thunder in four games 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, and 25-22.

Charlene DeVries had a monster game for the Royals with eight kills, six aces, and one block for 15 points. Curtiss Straatsma added 14 points.

The Lady Royals finished the season with a record-setting 13 wins and only five losses.

While the women's team advanced, it was a tough day for the men's team who fell to the George Brown Huskies in four games (22-25, 25-19, 25-27, 25-20).

Despite winning the first set, the Huskies stormed back winning the next three, ending Redeemer's season.

The OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship is hosted by Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., while the men's championship will be hosted by Georgian College in Barrie, Ont.

Both events run Feb. 20-22.
