REDEEMER 3, DURHAM 1

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Redeemer University women's volleyball team defeated Durham College 3-1 Friday afternoon earning a spot in the OCAA bronze medal semi-finals. Set scores were 25-11, 25-22, 24-26 and 25-16.

The Royals came out strong in the first set as they were able to establish a winning tone from the very beginning of the match. Redeemer received an outstanding performance from their dynamic duo of Charlene De Vries (London, Ont.) and game MVP Curtiss Straatsma (Brampton, Ont.). Straatsma dominated throughout the entire match collecting 12 kills, seven digs, three blocked shots and five service aces while De Vries appeared to single handily carry her team to victory in the fourth and final set earning a team leading 13 kills along with two blocked shots and two service aces.

For Durham the loss ends their run at the OCAA championship after earning an automatic bid as the host. Despite the loss, the Lords received an outstanding effort from OCAA all-star and game MVP Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) who totalled five kills, six digs and a team leading four service aces while fellow outside hitter Rayan Bourne (Whitby, Ont.) led the team with 10 kills throughout the tough four set match.

Redeemer will next face the loser of Fanshawe and Seneca in the bronze medal semi-final. The match will take place at the CRWC Saturday morning with first service set for 9 a.m.

Durham College is proud to host the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship (Feb. 20-22) and the OCAA Volleyball/Basketball All-Star Games (Mar. 22) at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
