TRENT 3, REDEEMER 1

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Trent University women's volleyball team won 3-1 against Redeemer University in the OCAA bronze medal game capturing their first OCAA medal in program history. Set scores were 21-25, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-8.

Despite losing the first set the Excalibur showcased an outstanding all-around team performance allowing them to rally off three straight sets to earn the bronze medal. The culmination of their full team performance came in the fourth set when Trent saw their setter Erin Clancy (Woodbridge, Ont.) record an amazing shot block and middle Samantha Belsey (Norwood, Ont.) score a crucial late set dig that ensured the dominant victory. Highly decorated freshman Jamie Fryer (Pickering, Ont.) was named game MVP leading her squad with a team high nine kills along with three digs, one blocked and one service ace.

Redeemer fought hard in the four set match including a strong first set which the Royals were able to capture. Jocelyn Klompmaker (Beamsville, Ont.) was named game MVP for the Royals earning a game-high 11 kills and 13 digs. Strong play was also seen throughout the tournament by outside hitter Curtiss Straatsma (Brampton, Ont.) who recorded four kills, nine digs and three blocked shots in the bronze medal game.

For her efforts throughout the three-day event, Trent's Rebecca Van Staalduinen (Peterborough, Ont.) was named an OCAA championship all-star.

Durham College is proud to host the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship (Feb. 20-22) and the OCAA Volleyball/Basketball All-Star Games (Mar. 22) at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
