NIAGARA 3, ST. CLAIR 2

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity volleyball teams split their matches on Sunday afternoon against the Niagara Knights at the St. Clair gym.

The St. Clair women lost their match by a score of 3-2. Game scores for Niagara were 25-27, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20 and 15-8. Samantha Bueckert (Tilbury District) had a solid match with 10 kills, three stuff blocks, one service ace and 20 digs. With the loss the St. Clair women fell to 7-8 on the season and are now in fifth place while Niagara improved to 6-10 and are in seventh place. The top six teams will make the playoffs.

The St. Clair men upset the Knights by a score of 3-2. Game scores for St. Clair were 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21 and 15-11. Jason Hernandez (Harrow District) had a strong match for the Saints with 14 kills, two stuff blocks, two service aces and 12 digs. The St. Clair men are now 8-7 and in sixth place in the OCAA West Division and are ranked ninth in Ontario. The Knights fell to 12-4 with the loss and are tied for second place. Niagara is ranked third in the Ontario and ninth in Canada.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday night when they host the Conestoga Condors. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. These will be the final varsity volleyball games played in the old St. Clair Gym as the new Sportsplex opens for next season.
