ST. CLAIR 3, MOHAWK 1

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity volleyball teams split their matches on Friday night against the Mohawk Mountaineers at the St. Clair gym.

The St. Clair women won their match by a score of 3-1. Game scores for St. Clair were 28-26, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-22. Kate Zawyrucha (LaSalle-Sandwich Secondary) had a strong outing for the Saints with nine kills, one stuff block and 13 digs. Helen Wiebe (Leamington District) also had a solid match with nine kills, two stuff blocks and 13 digs. With the win the St. Clair women improved to 7-7 on the season and are now in fifth place while Mohawk slide to 7-8 and sixth place.

The St. Clair men fell to the Mountaineers by a score of 3-2. Game scores for Mohawk were 25-21, 13-25, 13-25, 25-20 and 15-8. Travis Wigle (Kingsville) had a strong match for the Saints with seven kills and six stuff blocks. Josh Lynch (Windsor-Western) had a solid match with four kills, two service aces, two stuff blocks, 32 assists and two digs. The St. Clair men are now 7-7 and in sixth place in the OCAA West Division and are ranked ninth in Ontario. The Mountaineers improved to 11-4 with the win and are in fourth place. Mohawk is ranked fifth in Ontario.

Both teams are back in action on Sunday when they host the Niagara Knights at the St. Clair Gym. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Mohawk squads divided OCAA volleyball decisions at St. Clair College in Windsor on Friday.

The Mountaineer men beat the Saints in five sets, 25-21, 14-25, 12-25, 25-20, 15-8, to stretch their win streak to six games. Trevor McLaughlin had 19 kills to pace the winners. Eric Danecke had six kills, six blocks and one service ace. Marcin Jedrzejewski produced 10 kills, one ace and one stuff block. Defensively, Bart Jedrzejewski came up with 16 digs.
Mohawk's record improved to 11-4, while St. Clair fell to 7-7.

The Mohawk women's team saw a four match win string snapped. The Mountaineers, who had put together four consecutive 3-0 sweeps, bowed out in four games to the St. Clair Saints. The scores were 26-28, 16-25, 25-20, 22-25. Kirsten Bialachowski led the visitors with 11 kills and 11 digs. Setter Corinne McGrath had eight kills, two stuff blocks and 29 assists.

Mohawk saw it's record fall to 7-8. St. Clair improved to 7-7, as it ended a two-game slide.

Both Mohawk teams get right back into action Saturday afternoon in London against the Fanshawe Falcons.
