TORONTO - The Seneca Sting opened the home portion of their 2014-15 schedule on Wednesday night, welcoming the Georgian Grizzlies to the Newnham Campus Gym.

The Grizzlies, holding a distinct height advantage, played to their strengths, knocking off the host Sting in four sets 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18.

The Sting, coming off a fifth-place finish at last year's CCAA national championship, were replacing four starters from last year's 16-2 team including OCAA all-time digs leader Clare Weisser.

The Sting received big contributions from their returning players including OCAA All-Rookie team member Tina O'Donnell (Scarborough).

O'Donnell led the Sting with a match-high 13 kills while adding a team-high 21 digs for a match-leading 16 points. Kiana Miller (Toronto) had six kills and five digs along with three blocks. Lauren Watt (Barrie) produced five kills, five digs and a match-high five blocks. Defensively, Paulynne Reyes (Edmonton) added 15 digs while Jahneisha Stephenson (Scarborough) and Victoria Wensley (North York) each added 12 digs.

Allison Marshall paced the Grizzlies with 11 kills while Brittany Coughlin and Erinn Marshall each added eight kills apiece. Alexandra Roy added 22 digs along with 16 from Kelsey Buckley and 13 from Coughlin.

The Sting are off until Nov. 8 when they travel to play the Loyalist Lancers at 1 p.m. The Grizzlies travel to Canadore on Sunday to play the Panthers.

TORONTO - The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team continued their great start to the 2014 OCAA season with a win over the Seneca Sting on Wednesday night in North York, Ont.

After splitting the first two sets with the Sting, the Grizzlies swept the last two to collect a solid road win by a 3-1 score (25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18) which improves their record to 2-0 on the season.

It was a big game for the Marshalls from Orillia, Ont. Allison, a third year middle, had a 15-point effort to lead the team while sister Erinn had a career-high 10-point effort. Both find themselves in the top 15 in the OCAA of points scored through two games with Allison sitting in a tie for third overall.

On the men's side the Grizzlies had a tougher time shutting down the Sting.

Georgian battled hard in all three sets but it was Seneca who was able to get the edge each time on their way to a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-19, 25-22).

Freshman Darien Haynes (Barrie) had a strong effort leading the Grizzlies with 12 points while sophomore Matt Boucher (Collingwood) had 11 points.

Both Georgian teams will be travelling to face the Canadore Panthers this Sunday in North Bay, Ont. before playing their next home games against the Durham Lords on Nov. 7.
