DURHAM 3, LA CITE 1

OTTAWA - Two matches, two wins. That was the goal set out by Durham College women's volleyball head coach Tony Clarke heading to Ottawa this weekend. His young squad would not let him down as they earned victories over Algonquin and La Cité.

In Saturday's match against the Coyotes, Durham would need a comeback effort after dropping the opening set 25-19. The Lords would respond in a big way, not allowing the Coytotes to reach 20 points in the next three sets, winning by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-16.

Alysha Johnson (Whitby, Ont.) quarterbacked the Lords offence as she recorded a game-high 18 assists. Her favourite targets were Tess Newey (Hampton, Ont.) and Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) who each had eight kills in the win.

The Lords would earn valuable points at the service line as they had a team total of 14 aces. Melissa Semeniuk (Ajax, Ont.) would account for four of the aces, to go along with her four block night.

Durham has won three of their last four matches to improve to 3-3 on the year.

The Lords will have a tough test ahead of them when they host the Canadore Panthers on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. The Panthers are 5-1 to start the year with their only loss coming against the undefeated Trent Excalibur.
