DURHAM 3, LOYALIST 1

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team won their eighth straight match on Wednesday night at Loyalist, but there is little time to celebrate.

On Saturday the team will face the Canadore Panthers on the road, a match that will help determine where the two teams sit atop the OCAA east division.

With their 3-1 (26-28, 25-10, 25-19, 25-17) win over the Lancers, the Lords move into lone possession of second place in the east. Canadore is two points back in third, but have a game in hand.

Durham got to where they are in the standings with eight straight wins, one of which was at home against the Panthers in November, a 3-1 victory.

Those wins came because of performances from players such as Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.), the OCAA volleyball athlete of the week. Both Broad and Emily Hacker (Cobourg, Ont.) had 14 kills to lead Durham past Loyalist. Broad also added five service aces.

Leading the team in blocks was Courtney Stoffers (Frankford, Ont.) with three.

In her first game this semester, Melissa Semeniuk (Pickering, Ont.) had four kills, three service aces and one block.
