SENECA 3, DURHAM 2

NORTH YORK, Ont. - Entering Saturday play the Durham College women's volleyball team was in a four-way tie for second in the OCAA east region - they came out of their match with Seneca in a tie for third.

Heading into their afternoon match the Lords and Sting each had a 9-4 record alongside the Canadore Panthers and Trent Excalibur. Canadore defeated Trent 3-0 in their match, which took place in North Bay, Ont.

After losing the opening set 25-19 to Seneca, Durham bounced back with a 25-18 win of their own.

The Sting took the third 25-18, putting themselves in the driver's seat heading into the fourth set.

Durham opened the fourth with an 8-1 lead, which Seneca closed the gap on, but they couldn't overcome their early deficit as the Lords forced the fifth and final set.

The Lords led once in the fifth set, 4-2, but Seneca took the lead back and when the teams switched sides were ahead 8-6. The Sting scored the next six points to open up a 12-6 lead.

Durham closed the gap to 13-10, but were unable to complete the comeback as Seneca won 15-12.

Tess Newey (Hampton, Ont.) led the Lords with 11 kills and one block, while Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) had nine kills and five service aces.

Lauren Watt had 11 kills, four blocks and one ace for Seneca in the win.

Coming into their final four matches of the regular season, the Lords play three times at home. Their next action is Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Georgian at the CRWC.
