GEORGIAN 3, FLEMING 0

BARRIE, Ont. – Looking to make it a perfect weekend the Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's volleyball teams welcomed the Fleming Knights on Sunday afternoon to the Georgian Athletic Centre.

The women's game went as planned with two teams facing each other at opposite ends of the standings.

The Grizzlies kept their win streak alive improving to 13-1 on the season winning in straight sets over the Knights 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-7).

Georgian used a balanced attack led by Hannah Campbell (Midland, Ont.) who had a team-high 12 points on the afternoon. The fifth-year middle added two more blocks to her career total of 220 as she sits second on the all-time list behind Fanshawe's Stephanie Bignell who established a new mark of 224 blocks on Saturday.

The win combined with Canadore's loss Sunday to Trent puts the Grizzlies in a good spot as they have a three-game cushion in first place with four games remaining on the schedule. A top place finish would give the Grizzlies a bye into the OCAA championship at the end of February.

Coming off an impressive victory on Saturday over Trent the Grizzlies men's team looked to pull out another game against a team they are chasing in the standings in the second place Knights.

The Grizzlies gave the Knights all they could handle in the first three sets including a first set win, but after the Knights pulled ahead 2-1 in a set that required extra points Georgian ran out of steam in the fourth set falling 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-15).

Despite the loss the Grizzlies had another strong performance out of Darien Haynes (Barrie, Ont.) who had a team-high 19 points while leading the team in kills (14), serving aces (two) and blocks (three).

The Grizzlies will be travelling to play the Durham Lords this Wednesday before travelling to face George Brown next weekend. Georgian's next home game will be on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they host the Canadore Panthers.
