GEORGIAN 3, LOYALIST 1

BARRIE, Ont. - It was the final games of the regular season for the Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's volleyball teams when they hosted the Loyalist Lancers at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

In what was the women's team's final tune-up prior to taking their bye to the provincials the Grizzlies were impressive in a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-11, 25-20) victory over the Lancers.

Mackenzie Roy had a tremendous game for the Grizzlies registering 11 serving aces as part of a 14 point effort while also registering 26 assists. Allison Marshall had a team-high 15 points while Hannah Campbell had another solid effort with 11 points. Campbell will finish her five-year career at Georgian as the second highest total of career blocks in OCAA history with 221.

Georgian will enter the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship as the top seed from the east division with a 16-2 record. The championship takes place Feb. 26-28 hosted by Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont.

On the men's side, the Grizzlies are fighting for their playoff lives and took care of business against the Lancers.

Georgian controlled the match from start to finish in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-15) victory.

Darien Haynes (Barrie, Ont.) led the Grizzlies with an 11-point effort while Justin Burke had a good game with seven points and 24 assists.

The Grizzlies will be playing close attention to the Algonquin Thunder versus George Brown Huskies match on Saturday night. If the Huskies are victorious then the Grizzlies will slide their way into the sixth and final playoff spot in the OCAA's east division.

Prior to each game Georgian recognized the graduating seniors from each squad and thanked them for their dedication to their team and to wish them the best in the future.

Graduating from the women's team this season are Hannah Campbell (Midland, Ont.), Kelsey Buckley (Midland, Ont.), Mackenzie Roy (Barrie, Ont.), Alexandra Roy (Barrie, Ont.), Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.), Erinn Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) and Jennifer Kelly (Innisfil, Ont.).

Jason Grimm (Orangeville, Ont.), Justin Atkinson (Wingham, Ont.), Justin Burke (Wingham, Ont.), Matt Boucher (Collingwood, Ont.), Jason His (Aurora, Ont.) will be graduating from the men's team.
