REDEEMER 3, TRENT 1

ANCASTER, ONT. - The Redeemer Royals are moving on to the 2015 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship semi-finals after a 3-1 win on opening day against the Trent Excalibur. Backed by their home crowd, the Royals survived a tense game that saw Redeemer take an early lead (2-0) before Trent battled back taking the third set and almost forcing a fifth and deciding set. The host Royals were able to close out the match in a very tight fourth set, 26-24.

Redeemer looked comfortable in their home gym early, winning the first two sets 25-13 and 25-18. However, Trent mounted a comeback after settling in and won a thrilling third set 29-27. From there, teams exchanged points the entire fourth set till the Royals eventually ended the match in extra points.

Redeemer's duo of Charlene De Vries and Curtiss Straatsma accounted for 40 total points. Straatsma finished the match with 15 kills, five aces and two blocks while De Vries added 13 kills, two aces and three blocks.

Trent's Sarah MaLaren and Jamie Fryer led the team each with 12 points.

Trent will now face Sheridan College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
