DURHAM 3, GEORGIAN 0

ANCASTER, Ont. - In exciting fashion, the 2015 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship opened up on Thursday afternoon with a first round upset in the first match of the day. The 13-5 Durham Lords took just three sets to defeat the 16-2 Georgian Grizzlies in the opener. The Grizzlies entered the championship as the No. 1 seed out of the east, led by CCAA all-Canadian Hannah Campbell.

The Lords advanced to the championship by way of of a 3-2 set thriller over the St. Clair Saints in last week's OCAA playoff crossover match while the Georgian Grizzlies had a bye directly to the championship.

It was the third and deciding game for both teams this season as the Lords and Grizzlies split their season series 1-1. Despite the 3-0 scoreline, the match proved to be quite tight with set scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.

Durham's Jessica Broad led all scorers with 11 kills, two aces, and three blocks while Allison Marshall led the Grizzlies with 11 points.

With the victory, Durham moves on to the semi-finals and will face the winner of the match between Niagara College and Cambrian College. Georgian will square off against the loser.
