NIAGARA 3, TRENT 0

ANCASTER, Ont. - On Day 1 of the 2015 OCAA provincial Championship, the Niagara Knights made their way back to the hotel after a dissapointing first round loss. The Knights entered the tournament as one of the favorites to find their way to the championship final, but fell to the 8-10 Cambrian Golden Shield. For many teams, the loss could have drawn the energy and desire out of the players, but the Knights rallied, getting better and better as the championship progressed, rolling off three straight wins to capture the OCAA bronze medal.

Niagara defeated the Trent Excalibur in three straight 25-12, 25-12, 25-9.

Trent advanced to the bronze championship by way of a first round loss to the host Royals on Day 1, then a win over the Sheridan Bruins on Day 2, followed by a win on Saturday morning against the Cambrian Golden Shield. Niagara took a similar path to the medal round with a first round loss to the Cambrian Golden Shield, followed by two straight wins against the Georgian Grizzlies and the Redeemer Royals.

Sarah MacLaren did all she could for Trent in the loss, totalling 13 kills and three blocks in the three sets. Madison Morgan led the Knights with 12 kills and three aces.

For Niagara, it is their first OCAA medal since silver in 2003.

For Trent, another strong season comes to an end. Unlike in 2014, it ends in the bronze medal match without a medal. For Niagara, it was a fitting completion to a fantastic season in which the team recorded 15 league wins after back-to-back sub .500 seasons.
