DURHAM 3, FLEMING 0

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team ended its regular season with a bang on Seniors Night at the CRWC.

The Lords earned their fourth straight sweep, taking out the Fleming Knights to finish the season with a 13-5 record, while the Knights remain winless in 17 matches this season.

Graduating Lords Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) and Melissa Semeniuk (Pickering, Ont.) paced the Lords with 10 and eight kills respectively, while fellow graduate Raechel Mohns (Petawawa, Ont.) had four kills, three digs, and two service aces.

Other graduating Lords who played their final regular season game on Thursday were Alysha Johnson (Brooklin, Ont.), Alana McNeill (Oshawa, Ont.), Kayla Donahue (Ajax, Ont.) and Tess Newey (Hampton, Ont.)

The Lords came out firing in the first set, picking up six of the first seven points. The Knights fought back to make it 9-6, only for the Lords to score eight of the next nine points to build a 17-7 lead. Durham won the set 25-15.

The teams traded points early in the second set, with the Knights taking a 9-8 lead. However, a well-executed timeout by head coach Tony Clarke resulted in the Lords going on a 9-1 run to go up 17-11 and take control of the middle stanza en route to a 25-17 victory.

The Lords again got off to a strong start in the final frame, quickly building up a 10-3 lead. The Knights made a game of it, but the Lords just proved to be too strong and talented in closing out the match, again by a 25-17 margin.

For the Knights, Nikki Smith led with six kills and four digs, while Tabatha Casselman added five kills and seven digs.

Apart from having qualified for the playoffs, where Durham will finish is still up in the air. They could finish anywhere from third to fifth, meaning a qualifying game at home or on the road depending on the results of this weekend's games.
