SENECA 3, GEORGE BROWN 0

TORONTO - The Seneca Sting locked up with city rival, the George Brown Huskies, Wednesday night at Seneca College's Newnham Campus.

The host Sting started quickly in the match minimum three sets, sweeping the Huskies by scores of 25-13, 28-26, 25-23.

The scores were not a true indication of the actual match as the Sting led comfortably in all three sets before late Huskies rallies put the Sting on edge.

The Sting came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set, leading to a Huskies timeout before fans even had a chance to find their seats. The timeout did little to slow the momentum as the Sting showcased their offensive attack for an easy win.

The second set mirrored the first with the Sting holding a 22-12 lead. Lacking the killer instinct to put away the Huskies, the lead became a 24-24 tie thanks to some strong defence by the Huskies and a number of missed serves by the home squat.

The final set was the closest of the match with the teams trading punches before the Sting were able to pull away late for a three-set sweep.

Tina O'Donnell (Scarborough) led the Sting with 12 kills while contributing two aces and six digs. Maxine Law-Tan (Burlington) recorded five kills, three aces and a match-high 21 digs. Setter Ma Sofia Silva (Laguna) had 22 assists while libero Jahneisha Stephenson (Scarborough) had 10 digs.

Patricia Niengue paced the Huskies with seven kills on 25 attacks while adding five digs. Brittney Gee had four kills, six assists and a team-high 19 digs. Briana Perry topped the Huskies with 10 assists.

The Sting get back in action on Saturday when they travel to play the Canadore Panthers at 1 p.m. The Huskies have a week to re-group before welcoming the Fleming Knights on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
