ST. CLAIR 3, REDEEMER 2

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's volleyball team won a tight match on Saturday afternoon at the Sportsplex over Redeemer University. The Saints defeated the Royals by a score of 3-2.

Game scores for St. Clair were 27-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-25 and 15-12. The Saints had a solid team effort but were led by Shalena Horst with 11 kills, two stuff blocks, and 13 digs. Sara Yablonsky had a solid match as well with seven kills, three service aces, two stuff blocks and four digs. Helen Wiebe chipped in with five kills, one ace, three stuff blocks and 23 digs.

The St. Clair women improved to 6-4 on the season while Redeemer fell to 4-6. The Saints are now tied for fourth place in the OCAA west division with Cambrian but St. Clair has a game in hand over the Golden Shield.

The match was also highlighted by Redeemer's Curtiss Straatsma who broke the all-time career OCAA points record. Heading into the match Straatsma needed 12 points to take over the record which was at 1,239. The fifth-year player got that no problem as she ended up with 22 points to take over the record with a total of 1,250 points.

The Saints are next in action when the host the Niagara Knights on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Sportsplex.
