DURHAM 3, LOYALIST 0

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team continued their perfect start to conference play by defeating the Loyalist Lancers 3-0 on Thursday night.

This is the first time since 2009-10 that Durham has started 5-0. That season Loyalist, coincidentally enough, ended their streak.

"As a coach you're excited to see that your team is successful and doing positive things early in the season," said Durham head coach Tony Clarke. "We don't want to discount the victories, but know that as a group, both players and coaches, we have to continue to work hard all year if we want to be there in February. There were lots of positives tonight and a few teachable moments that we will use heading into our next match."

At the net Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) continued to be tough to stop - earning a team-high eight kills against the Lancers, most of which were set by Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) who finished the match with 23 assists.

Freshman Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) and Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) each finished the match with seven kills apiece.

Other notable performances came from Madeleine Elit (Trenton, Ont.) who had four kills, three aces and a block; Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.) with four kills, two blocks and an ace; and Brier Kaake (Whitby, Ont.) who had 12 digs.

Durham is now off for the week, with their next match scheduled at home against the Fleming Knights on Nov. 17. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
