DESJARDINS NAMED OCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

TORONTO - Niagara College fourth-year left side Natasha Desjardins (Welland, Ont.) is the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Volleyball Player of the Year.

The co-West Division Scoring Champion led all players in several statistical categories during the abbreviated 2022 regular season, including 118 kills, 3.58 kills per set, 320 total attacks and 139 points. She tied for the West Division lead averaging 4.2 points per set. Also named a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, the West Division Player of the Year headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, Man.) of Durham is the East Division Player of the Year. The second-year middle is the East Division Scoring Champion averaging a league-best 4.3 points per set and .459 hitting percentage. Hildebrandt was also among the OCAA leaders with 27 blocks averaging 1.04 blocks per set, and 111 total points. Also named a CCAA All-Canadian, Hildebrandt headlines the East Division First-Team All-Stars.

Keyome Ellis (Scarborough, Ont.) of Humber is also a CCAA All-Canadian. The second-year middle averaged 3.2 points per set on 66 kills, 13 service aces and 11 blocks totalling 90 points, helping lead Humber to a West Division championship. Ellis is also a West Division First-Team All-Star.

Ellis' teammate Erika Dodd (Uxbridge, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The Humber left side is the co-West Division Scoring Champion averaging 4.2 points per set with 75 kills, 20 service aces and two blocks totalling 97 points. The West Division Rookie of the Year is also an West Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Dale Beausoleil of Cambrian is the OCAA Coach of the Year. The Golden Shield made the OCAA playoffs with a regular season record of 7-2, a much improved result compared to when they went 4-14 during the 2019-20 campaign. The West Division Coach of the Year is also the nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year.

Maddy Nadeau (Cobourg, Ont.) of Algonquin is the East Division Rookie of the Year. The left side was her team leader with 96 kills and 112 points averaging 3.9 points per set. Nadeau is also an East Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the East Division All-Rookie Team.

Tony Clarke of Durham is the East Division Coach of the Year. The Lords were the only unbeaten team in the OCAA with an 8-0 regular season campaign, winning the East Division championship. Durham also lost a league-low two sets.

In addition to Desjardins, Ellis and Dodd, OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars include Cambrian's Isabelle Rivest (Sturgeon Falls, Ont.); Humber's Alex Krstonosic (Toronto, Ont.) and Alex Lachapelle (Ajax, Ont.); and St. Clair's Sarah Dobinson (Whitby, Ont.).

Joining Hildebrandt and Nadeau as OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars are Algonquin's Emilie Menard (Cornwall, Ont.) and Kristina Renwick (Stittsville, Ont.); Canadore's Althea Boncheff (Orangeville, Ont.); and Durham's Katie Stewart (Gananoque, Ont.) and Brooke Young (Chestermere, Alta.).

The OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Mohawk's Kaelyn Emslie (St. Catharines, Ont.), Anika Gatto (Vancouver, B.C.), Irene Jaramillo Restrepo (Colombia), Amanda Kuiper (Woodstock, Ont.), Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, Ont.) and Julia Watson (Burlington, Ont.); and St. Clair's Chantal DeVlugt (Wyoming, Ont.).

Named OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars are Canadore's Katie Bethune (North Bay, Ont.), Sarah Grassie (Sturgeon Falls, Ont.) and Tianna Head (North Bay, Ont.); Durham's Amanda Larsen (Toronto, Ont.) and Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, Ont.); La Cite's Melany Delisle (Gatineau, Que.); and Seneca's Ngameni Davina.

Joining Dodd on the West Division All-Rookie Team are Cambrian's Brielle Chicoine (Sudbury, Ont.); Fanshawe's Hannah Onyema (St. Thomas, Ont.); Mohawk's Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, Ont.) and Vanderwal; and St. Clair's Kiana Huggins (London, Ont.).

Joining Nadeau on the East Division All-Rookie Team are Durham's Larsen, Pedersen and Young; Loyalist's Sierra Scott (Newmarket, Ont.); and Seneca's Ngameni Davina (Toronto, Ont.).
