FRY, SMITH SET THE PACE AT ST. LAWRENCE INVITATIONAL

KINGSTON, Ont. - The opening cross country meet of the 2012 OCAA season took place at Fort Henry in Kingston, Ont. on Saturday in the St. Lawrence Invitational.

In a tight women's 5 km race, Fanshawe's Jocelyn Fry edged Rebecca Jaros of St. Lawrence-Brockville by under three seconds. Fry's time of 20:04.5 set the standard on this day, as seven women crossed the finish line in under 21 minutes.

Humber teammates Darian Limb and Katherine White placed third and fourth with times of 20:22.7 and 20:37.9, respectively. Liz Seguin rounded out the top five with a time of 20:44.1.

Defending OCAA women's team champion Humber took the women's team title with four runners in the top nine overall.

In the men's 8 km race, two-time reigning OCAA silver medalist Clint Smith of Fanshawe won in a time of 26:11.9. Riley Olesky of Fleming placed second with a time of 26:27.0. Smith's teammate Daniel Bright (26:50.7) and Humber runners Andrew Cruickshank (27:07.5) and Nathaniel Green (27:28.4) rounded out the Top 5.

Defending OCAA men's team champion Fanshawe won the men's team title. The Falcons host the next invitational on Saturday.

Algoma University plays host to the 2012 OCAA Cross Country Championships in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. on October 20.
