HAAN NAMED OCAA CROSS COUNTRY COACH OF THE YEAR

TORONTO - Monique Haan of the Humber Hawks is the 2012 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) cross country coach of the year.

Haan, in her seventh year as head coach of the Hawks, receives the award for the second straight season.

Called the driving force behind the sport of cross country at Humber, the Hawks successfully defended their women's team title at the recent OCAA Cross Country Championships, while the men's team was rewarded a second straight silver medal. Individually, Humber's Darian Limb earned an women's individual bronze medal. Three Hawks, including Limb, earned OCAA all-Ontario awards.

Haan is also instrumental in creating a new Humber Cross Country Invitational which made its debut last month, designing a course that will also be used for the 2013 nationals.

Haan is OCAA's nominee for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Six all-Canadians will also be honoured by the CCAA. Along with Limb, OCAA individual champions Richelle Moore of St. Lawrence-Kingston and Clint Smith of Fanshawe; silver medalists Stephanie Braithwaite of Seneca and Andrew DeGroot of St. Clair; and men's bronze medalist Sean Sweeney of George Brown will be recognized at the 2012 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championship on November 9 at Champlain College, St. Lambert, Que.
