MOHAWK WITH A STRONG PERFORMANCE AT OCAA CROSS COUNTRY

ANCASTER, Ont. - For most of us, a walk through the beautiful Dundas Valley Conversation Area would be a treat, but on a cold and wet Saturday, Oct. 26, we'd probably take a pass until a better day comes along.

But for 197 runners competing in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Cross Country Championships, they had work to do, even if they found the weather less than ideal for the event hosted by Redeemer University College.

And the athletes from Mohawk College acquitted themselves very well in the event on a course which started from the Morgan Firestone Arena on Jerseyville Road in Ancaster, Ont.

The Mountaineer men finished fourth out of 18 teams in their team competition, which was won by Fanshawe.

Individually, Jessie Wilcox was 12th in a field of 109. He was timed in 30:23 for the eight kilometer distance. Kevin Patterson was right behind in 13th place in 30:26.

Other Mohawk men's results:

Hassan Ishaq (32nd) 32:01
Johannes Louw (39th) 33:11
Ryan Gagnon (48th) 33:54
Gallacher Patterson (55th) 34:49
Riley Kolisnyk (74th) 36:55

Clint Smith of Fanshawe was the men's winner, clocked in 28:04.

Eighty-eight runners competed in the women's five kilometre race and Aimee Large was Mohawk's best, finishing 22nd in 24:04, while Ashley DeWitt was 30th in  24:50.

Courtney Brohart of St. Lawrence College in Kingston won in 22:06.
