STRONG EFFORT FOR MOHAWK CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - The Mohawk men's team turned in a solid performance, finishing second behind Fanshawe at the cross country invitational hosted by Sault College on Saturday.

Individually, the Mountaineers had four runners in the Top 20. Chris Caddey was in sixth place in a time of 27:43 for the eight kilometre event. Kyle Rooke was ninth in 27:59, Jason LaPorta wound up 12th in 28:12 and Kyler Norton rounded out the team scores finishing 18th in 28:41.

Riley Olesky of Fleming College and William Cheno of Centennial were the fastest men, both timed in 26:41.

In the women's five kilometre run, Mohawk's Sarah Beairsto was fifth overall in a time of 20:16. Jillian Ciccone was 18th in 21:49, Zena Bromby came in 43rd, clocked in 27:03 and Caitlin Naumann was 50th in 30:47.

Mary Strain of Cambrian was the fastest in 18:26.

Humber won the women's team title and Mohawk finished fourth.
