GEORGIAN CROSS COUNTRY MAKE FINAL PUSH TOWARDS PROVINCIALS

TORONTO - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's cross country teams had their final race prior to the provincial championships as they took part in the Centennial Invitational on Saturday in Toronto.

Georgian's women's runners continued to show progress at the six kilometre event as they hope to peak at the right time.

Jessica Roach (Orillia) finished as the top Georgian runner in the field in 22nd place with teammate Meaghan Evon (Barrie) finishing just one spot back in 23rd place.

First-year runner Kaitlyn L'Abbe (Ottawa) finished in 37th place while Sophia Merilainen (Batawa) finished in 52nd and Rachael Smith (Guelph) finished in 58th overall.

In the men's race, Georgian had another strong run from Tyler Thomson (Bracebridge) who finished in 21st place in the eight kilometre race.

Teammates Brian Lofaso (Toronto) finished in 57th while Aurel Fox (Sudbury) rounded out the Georgian contingent in 62nd place.

The Grizzlies are entering the home stretch of the cross country season as they will now have two weeks to prepare for the OCAA Championships which take place in London, Ont., hosted by Fanshawe College on Saturday, Oct. 28.
