NATIONAL SILVER, BRONZE FOR PAIR OF OCAA CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS

Nolan Turgeon from the RESQ's Victoriaville Vulkins is the new CCAA men's national champion winning in a time of 25:26. Turgeon was the men's individual silver medal winner in 2021.

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers played host to the 2022 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships presented by Mint SmartWash on a cold, November day in Medicine Hat, Alta.

In spite of the chilly weather, great times were posted across the board. Moktar Said from the ACAC's SAIT Trojans wasn't too far behind Turgeon, earning the silver medal in a time of 25:38. Xavier Lemaitre from the RESQ's Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers goes home with the bronze in a time of 25:47. Tyler Jones from St. Clair, OCAA and Mathis Vallieres from Victoriaville, RESQ rounded out the top five.

The team race was also a close affair with the winner finishing only 15 points ahead of third and a narrow four points ahead of second. At the end of the day the ACAC's SAIT Trojans have been crowned 2022 CCAA cross country national champions. They had a team score of 45 points and an average time of 26:34. The team was made of CCAA silver medalist Said, Keiran Marchand, Tofik Said, Yahye Mohamed, Elsami Rosa and Brian Rono.

The 2021 CCAA defending champion, Fanshawe Falcons, came a close second with a score of 49 points and an average time of 26:47. The team was made up of Sandy Freeman, Sam Cumming, Ethan Roche, Ty Breedon, Aaron Reid and Lucas Liboiron.

Rounding out the top three was the OCAA's St. Clair Saints. They had a team score of 60 points and an average time of 26:56. The team consisted of Jones, Jacob Fitzpatrick, Rick Nepomuceno, Matt Lafleur, Russell Niedre and Michael Horrobin.

Makenna Fitzgerald, from the ACAC's SAIT Trojans repeated as the women's individual CCAA champion, crossing the line in a blistering time of 22:15.

Makenna finished a full 22 seconds ahead of Marika Couture (22:37) of the Élans de Garneau who earned the individual silver medal. Reese Bendiksen from the Augustana Vikings finished third in a time of 22:40, just three seconds out of second. Jenica Swartz from Red Deer, ACAC and Amelie Simard from Alma rounded out the top five.

In the team event, the Élans de Garneau of the RESQ were crowned CCAA national champions with a team score of 40 points and an average team time of 23:58. The team consisted of Marika Couture, Magalie Lessard, Raphaelle Leblond, Marianne Alarie and Alice Marsh.

Bringing home, the team silver medals were the RESQ's Sherbrooke Volontaires who had a team score of 84 points and an average time of 24:58. The team consisted of Rose-Emanuelle Binette, Elisa Vaillancourt, Natasha Bolger, Gabrielle Mercer, Meliann Briere and Laura Belanger.

The Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers made it three for three for the RESQ as they took the bronze medal. They had a team score of 96 points and an average time of 25:08. The team was made up of Emmanuelle Paquet, Sofia Veilleux, Emmanuelle Chaput, Jeanne Burton, Shelby Lajeunesse and Lea Boucher.
