AUSTIN MORRISON FINISHES TIED FOR FIRST AT GEORGIAN INVITATIONAL

The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams hosted their own Georgian Invitational on Thursday at the Heritage Hills Golf Club in Shanty Bay, Ont.

Seven different colleges competed at the event which was played on a beautiful day in ideal conditions.

It was a banner day for Georgian's Austin Morrison.

The second year student-athlete from Lloydminster, Alta., had an excellent day finishing with a round of 70, which tied him with Durham College's Nathaniel Coombes as co-winners of the men's individual competition.

Fellow Grizzlies teammate Griffin MacVicar (Barrie) was also solid posting a round of 73 to finish in the top-five at the event.

As a group, one of Georgian's men's teams finished tied for second shooting a combined score of 300 while the Grizzlies second men's team finished with a score of 306, good for fourth place.

On the women's side, it was once again a strong showing for Rachael Rier (Hanover) as she finished with a round of 82 to finish tied for third place individually.

Rier and teammate Kristin Butterfield (Brantford) finished in third place as a team with a combined score of 181.

The Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams will be back in action this coming Monday, Sept. 23 when they travel to compete in the Niagara Invitational. This will be their final tune-up prior to competing in the 2019 OCAA Golf Championships hosted by St. Lawrence College in Kingston from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
