DURHAM HOSTS FIRST OFFICIAL OCAA COMPETITION AT DC OPEN

WHITBY, Ont. - Marking the official return of OCAA sport, teams from across the province made their way to Lakeridge Links to compete in the DC Open on Monday. Both Lords men's and women's teams faired well, placing third overall in both categories for team performance.

For the women, dual-sport athlete Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, Ont.) produced the top result for DC, finishing with a score of 82 placing her in a tie for second overall in the women's individual standings. Combined with a 92 from DC's Julia Davis (London, Ont.), Durham finished third in the team standings with a 174, just behind St. Clair at 170 and Humber at 160.

On the men's side, the Lords were led by second-year standout Nathanial Coombes (Port Perry, Ont.) and incoming first-year rookie Ryan Williams (Courtice, Ont.) who finished with three others in a tie for third overall individually, scoring totals of 76. Rounding out scores for the DC men were Cam Lyon (Kingston, Ont.) with an 81, Matt O'Neill (Peterborough, Ont.) with an 82, and Julian Hrywnak (Courtice, Ont.) scoring 97.

The overall individual winner on the day for the men was former Durham Lord and current Georgian Grizzly Josh Taylor who scored a 73, while Davey Morton of Humber and Jamaal Moussaoui of St. Lawrence tied for second with 75. Georgian claimed the team title with a combined 307, followed by Humber at 309 and Durham with 315.

All the teams in attendance will be looking to make a quick turnaround as next on the schedule is the OCAA Championship, hosted this season in Sault Ste. Marie by Sault College. The provincial championship is scheduled for Sept. 19-22. Top qualifying teams will then prep for the CCAA National Championship which will also be held in Ontario as St. Clair will host the nation's best from Oct. 11-15.

McCallum, Surjoprajogo lead Humber Golf to tournament victory

WHITBY, Ont. - The defending OCAA champions kicked off the 2021 golf season with a tournament win at the Durham Invitational. The Hawks captured the team title by ten strokes over St. Clair, carding a combined round of 16-over par (160).

Humber finished with three players on the podium, including two-time All-Canadian Hayley McCallum and OCAA All-Ontario Elaine Surjoprajogo. The duo tied for first in the event, finishing eight-over par (80) at Lakeridge Links Golf Course. For McCallum, it was her third individual title in three seasons, while Surjoprajogo recorded her second victory in as many seasons.

First-year player Madison Ouellette finished third on the day, shooting a 13-over par (85), three strokes behind second place. Natasha Stasiuk, who previously competed for Ottawa University, carded a round of 92 in her first event for the Hawks.

The Hawks will now head to the 2021 OCAA Championship hosted by Sault College. The three-round tournament will begin on September 19 at Crimson Ridge Golf Course.
