ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM WINS SILVER AND MEN WIN DIVISION II

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's and women's varsity golf teams wrapped up play at the OCCA championships on Wednesday. The event was hosted by Sault College at Crimson Ridge Golf Club in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. Conditions were tough on a very difficult golf course with lots of wind for all three rounds.

The Saints women's team ended up bringing home the silver medals. Shannon Coffey (Windsor; FJ Brennan) had a solid final round shooting an 84. Coffey missed out on a bronze medal by one stroke. Coffey had won an individual silver medal in 2019. Her three day total was 257. Sophia Fallea (LaSalle; Villanova) had another decent shooting a 91 to end up in sixth place. Meaghan Schaafsma (Essex; Essex District) ended the tournament in eighth place. For the women, three players play with the top two scores counting.

The Saints men team ended up winning the Division II championship with a three day total of 1032. There is a cut after two rounds and the Saints narrowly missed the Division I field but held on to win Division II in the final round. Five players play for each team with the best four scores counting each day.

First-year player Andrew Pillon (St. Joachim; Belle River District) had another solid round shooting a 79 for a three day total of 238 and tied for 11th out of 50 golfers. Other team members for St. Clair were Kyle Hameliy (1st Year; Burlington; Corpus Christi), Bradley Roughton (2nd Year; Belle River; Belle River District), Kayden Stammler (1st Year; Comber; Kingsville District) and Simon Desmarais (3rd Year; Windsor; FJ Brennan).

The Saints will be competing in the CCAA national championships as the host school at Ambassador Golf Club from October 11-15.
