HUMBER LEADS INITIAL OCAA MEN’S SOCCER RANKINGS

TORONTO - The Humber Hawks earned two 5-0 wins on the road this past weekend to secure the No. 1 spot in the initial Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men's soccer Top 5 rankings.

1. Humber Hawks
(Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Rank - 1)

The defending OCAA champions opened the season on the road in Western Ontario, picking up identical 5-0 wins over St. Clair on Saturday and Lambton on Sunday.

Yousuf Mohammad and Roberto Galle both scored three goals each during the weekend, including two against Lambton.

Humber (2-0-0) will begin the home portion of its regular season this Wednesday against Conestoga, followed by a Saturday match versus Fanshawe.  

2. Sheridan Bruins
(CCAA Rank - 4)

The defending OCAA silver medalist Sheridan Bruins (2-0-0) also took a road trip to the west end of the province this past weekend, defeating Lambton on Saturday 5-1 and St. Clair 4-1 on Sunday.

Sheridan produced a balanced offensive attack in both games, with eight different players scoring. Only Cameo Ellis scored twice, with both goals coming against Lambton.

Sheridan's lone match of the week comes this Saturday at home against Conestoga.

3. Seneca Sting

The defending OCAA bronze medalist Seneca Sting (0-0-0) will wait until Tuesday to open the OCAA regular season when they make the short trek to across town to Centennial.

4. Mohawk Mountaineers

The Mohawk Mountaineers (0-0-1), fresh off an OCAA Final Four berth a season ago, tied Conestoga 3-3 on the road to open their regular season on Friday.

Adam Petrina, Alex Pereira and Stefan Radoman all scored for Mohawk.

Mohawk will play three games in four days this week, including a road trip to Fanshawe on Wednesday. Mohawk hosts St. Clair and Lambton on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

5. Algonquin Thunder

Prior to last season, the Algonquin Thunder (1-0-0) won six straight OCAA titles. They began what they hope is a road to redemption last Saturday at home, defeating St. Lawrence-Kingston 2-0.

Abdul Ibrahim and Mitch O'Brien both scored for Algonquin.

Algonquin now travels for two games, including a match with Fleming-Peterborough on Friday, followed by Durham on Saturday.
