TORONTO - Five undefeated teams make up the Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) men's soccer Top 5 rankings this
week.
1. Humber Hawks (Last Week - 1)
(Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Rank - 1)
The Humber Hawks (6-0-0) are two wins from an undefeated regular
season after picking up home victories over Redeemer last Tuesday
and previously-ranked No. 5 Mohawk on Friday.
The key to Humber's success has been keeping the ball out of its
net, while spreading out its offence on the other end. In a 3-1
victory over Redeemer, Matthew Rios, Mario
Orestano and Yousuf Mohammad all scored.
In a 4-0 win over Mohawk, Carlos Rojas,
Daniele Clemente, Orestano and Mohammad all
scored.
Humber has outscored the opposition 22-2 with nine different
Hawks scoring. Humber has a key match on Wednesday at No. 3
Sheridan in a rematch of last year's OCAA gold medal game, won by
the Hawks 2-1.
2. Algonquin Thunder (Last Week - 4)
(CCAA Rank - 14)
The Algonquin Thunder (5-0-0) increased their win streak to five
games after home wins against George Brown and Centennial last
Friday and Saturday.
Jordan Mitchell-Reyes scored a goal in each
match, including a 2-1 outcome over George Brown. Abdul
Ibrahim scored a pair of goals in a 4-1 win over
Centennial.
Algonquin's lone match this week is at No. 4 Seneca this
Saturday.
3. Sheridan Bruins (Last Week - 2)
(CCAA Rank - 4)
The Sheridan Bruins (5-0-0) kept pace with OCAA West leading
Humber, edging Fanshawe at home 4-3 on Tuesday before defeating
Niagara 3-2 on Friday.
David Velastegui scored a pair of goals against
Fanshawe. Three different Bruins scored against Niagara, including
Nelson Cabral, Jesse Asiedu and
Marco Colangelo.
First place in the OCAA West is on the line on Wednesday when
Sheridan hosts No. 1 Humber. Sheridan will visit Redeemer on
Saturday.
4. Seneca Sting (Last Week - 3)
(CCAA Rank - 12)
The Seneca Sting (3-0-0) have not allowed a goal in three matches
this season, defeating Durham at home 5-0 followed by a 1-0 win at
St. Lawrence-Kingston on Friday.
Cristian Rodrigues and Kevin
Zevallos both scored two goals each against Durham.
David Alva scored the game-winner against St.
Lawrence.
Seneca plays three matches in five games, beginning with a game at
George Brown on Wednesday. Seneca hosts back-to-back matches with
No. 2 Algonquin and No. 5 La Cite on Saturday and Sunday.
5. La Cite Coyotes (Last Week - NR)
La Cite Coyotes (3-0-0) remained undefeated on the season, picking
up home wins against George Brown on Saturday and Centennial on
Sunday.
Jose Bruno Mota scored four times in a 7-1
victory over George Brown. He followed this up with a pair of goals
in a 5-0 win over Centennial.
La Cite hits the road this weekend, with stops at Durham and No. 4
Seneca on Saturday and Sunday.
