HUMBER MEN'S SOCCER TEAM OUT OF MEDAL CONTENTION AT NATIONALS

QUEBEC CITY - The Humber Hawks men's soccer team are now out of medal contention at the 2011 CCAA Soccer National Championships as they suffered a 2-0 to the NAIT Ooks on Friday afternoon in Quebec City.

The Hawks knew that they had to win this game if they were to have any shot at the gold medal. In addition to that they knew they had to win by at least three goals. With the pressure on, the Hawks came out flying and had a number of scoring chances early in the match. Towards the end of the half the Ooks pushed back and Humber goalkeeper Peter Koumoulas was forced to make an outstanding save. At the half the score was 0-0.

In the second the Hawks began to push harder and make riskier choices defensively. This plan seemed to be working as Humber peppered the Ooks goalkeeper. However it left them exposed in their own end and the Hawks paid for it. Montgomery Haines of NAIT scored two quick goals that left the Hawks bewildered and dashed their hopes for a national medal.

Augustin De Medina of Humber and Mallan Roberts of NAIT were named players of the game.

The Hawks will now play for fifth place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning. You can catch the game live via the Internet at www.ccaasoccer2011.ca.
