SENECA DROPS CCAA MEN'S SOCCER BRONZE MEDAL MATCH

COQUITLAM, B.C. - The Garneau Élans of RSEQ knocked out the Seneca College Sting 2-1 to take bronze at the 2012 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship on Saturday.

Players of the game were defender Félix-Antoine Comtois for Garneau and defender Joey Amato for Seneca.

Scorers for Garneau were midfielder Bastien Bourgeault and striker Alexandre Larkin-Vachon, and for Seneca was midfielder Xavier Wright.

Bourgeault scored just minutes into the game, setting the tone for a Garneau team that dominated much of the half. Seneca dangerously gave up the ball a few times in their zone, and 15 minutes in, Garneau had another opportunity when striker Simon Roussy snuck through a scattered Seneca defence and blasted a shot off the far post.

Things got heated near the end of the half when Seneca's Mario Lugo-Uribe received a red card after a tumble with a Garneau player, then Seneca's Joey Amato was given a yellow for contesting it.

A frustrated Seneca continued to battle the fluid Garneau players. Seneca tightened up their passing in the second half and grew more offensive. Seneca striker Michael Duran applied pressure in the opposing zone. Midfielder Malvin Frances got a good header opportunity 20 minutes into the half, but couldn't get enough direction on it.

Then 25 minutes in, a turn-around in Seneca's zone lead to Larkin-Vachon's goal. A few minutes later Wright scored, putting Seneca back in the game. But Garneau poured on the pressure in the last 10 minutes, and Seneca just couldn't come back.

Seneca's overall record at the tournament was 2-2, as the Sting finish in fourth place out of eight teams.
