SHERIDAN 4, REDEEMER 0

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Two days after a road disappointment cost them two more points in the standings, the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (2-2-2 OCAA) delivered an emphatic 4-0 win over Redeemer that keeps them right in the thick of the playoff chase.

"I thought we played well again and controlled most of the game," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "Overall it was a good performance, but we still need to do a better job of finishing our chances."

A good start from the home side allowed them the opportunity to cash-in early and they did as David Velastegui played a long ball in for Jonathan Costa who ended up in a one-on-one battle against the Redeemer keeper, and was able to step around him and walk the ball in for the opening goal.

Twenty minutes later they added another when Costa re-directed the ball from inside the six-yard box towards Chris Divizio Mendes who headed it home.

They would hold that margin at halftime and continued to push for more early in the second half, but despite a bevy of early chances couldn't find the finishing touch.

It nearly cost them as well, as Redeemer had an uncontested look at goal inside the area - after some casual play from the Bruin back line turned it over - by Antonio Ilic was able to get his big right paw in the way to prevent the goal.

Kelechi Ebuta and Costa were each able to add two more markers late to push the game well out of reach.

They now have a critical game on the road against their rivals from Humber on October 3, a team that holds a 5-0-1 record against them in the past three seasons, including the last two title games.

Seuradge knows what he wants to see from his club and it mostly comes down to capitalizing on any chances they can create.

"We'll get back to the drawing board on the field," he said. "It will be a bit of a chess game in the first few minutes as the two teams try to figure one another out but we need to finish our chances. I hope these guys understand that teams aren't going to put goals on a gold plate for us, and even if they did, right now we'd probably spill it before we could eat."
