SHERIDAN 1, HUMBER 0

VAUGHAN, Ont. - Their season has often featured style over substance, but when the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (3-2-2 OCAA) needed it the most they delivered a substantial performance, as a second minute goal proved to be the winner in a 1-0 triumph over Humber that secures a playoff spot.

"We scored early in the game, so we changed up our formation a bit," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "We got a little more defensive after that and we held them off."

In the fourth minute Nelson Cabral cleared a ball from the Sheridan half that ended up springing Kelechi Ebuta on a breakaway and he made no mistake from there, scoring the only goal of the contest.

Nearing the hour mark, and as Humber started sending more players forward in search of an equalizer, the Double-Blue had a few good counter-attack opportunities, but could not find the net again.

They played the final 10 minutes with only 10 men after Marlon Sequeira was shown a straight red card.

Even with that disadvantage however, Sheridan was able to keep the ball in the Humber half, for the most part, before the final whistle.

The Bruins now have one game remaining - at home against Niagara on October 9 - and though he knows a seat at the playoff table has been reserved, Seuradge hopes his players understand their work is only just beginning.

"We're going to go back and come out with the same approach we always do," he said. "We want to win our last game to go into the playoffs with some momentum, and there's also the chance that we could could host a [playoff] game if other things go our way. So we're focused entirely on Niagara and nothing beyond that."

Blue notes: The win snaps a six-game winless streak for the Bruins against their rivals. The series has been remarkably close in the last two seasons as they teams have combined to score only two goals in their last three meetings.
