SENECA 2, GEORGE BROWN 0

The home crowd watched anxiously for nearly 65 minutes as the home team squandered chance after chance. Conversely, they also watched their Seneca Sting defence and keeper Peter Durst team up to shut down the George Brown Grizzlies Wednesday night on a foggy night at Newnham Campus Field.

Locked in a tight race for playoff positioning, the Sting couldn't afford to lose or draw with the OCAA East's only winless team. Having already locked up a playoff spot, the Sting continued to play hard in hopes of moving into the top spot in the East Division.

The constant attack by Seneca finally paid off in the 67th minute on a great display of teamwork.  David Alva sent a pass between two defenders to a streaking Mauricio Chamalé. Chamalé broke towards the goal and sent a hard shot which was stopped by Grizzlies keeper Anthony Ciccocelli.  The ball bounced right out to the right side of the net where Malven Francis put home the rebound for his third of the season.

The deficit ignited a spark in George Brown who took the game to the Sting. Moments after the goal, Durst stopped a point blank shot by Kyle Taitt to maintain the 1-0 lead for the Sting.

Seneca regained their composure and began to take the play to the Grizzlies. Delano Ferreira had an opportunity to put the home team up by two, but missed an open net just as the crowd began to get to their feet.

As the clock wound down, Seneca would put the match away on a highlight-reel move.  Armando Barjamaj took the ball and broke in all alone from twenty-five yards out.  Ciccocelli would come out to challenge him, but Barjamaj showed off his fancy footwork and dangled the ball past the sliding keeper.  He would kick the ball into the empty net to give his team a 2-0 lead and secure the victory.

The Seneca Sting (4-1-1) will travel to Durham (3-2-1) on October 9 in their regular season finale while George Brown (0-5-1) will host Centennial (4-2-0) on October 10.
