ETOBICOKE, Ont. - Humber College is pleased to introduce
Michael Aquino as the new head coach of the Humber
College men's soccer team. Michael, a much-valued assistant coach
with the Hawks, replaces Germain Sanchez, the only
soccer coach Humber has known for the past 22 years.
The success that Coach Sanchez has experienced is vast, and
Michael has been a major part of the recent triumphs, which
includes both provincial and national championships this past
year.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to lead the men's soccer
program at Humber College and build upon the successes of past
years. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Doug
Fox, our Athletic Director for this opportunity and to
congratulate Germain Sanchez on his retirement and many
accomplishments he has achieved over his illustrious coaching
career," says Aquino. "I look forward to working with our Athletic
Department, my coaching staff and our student athletes in achieving
excellence both on the field and in the classroom."
He currently holds an 'A' License from the Canadian Soccer
Association and an Advanced National Diploma from the National
Coaches Soccer Association of America. He also holds a Chartered
Professional Coach (ChPc) designation from the Coaches of Canada,
as well as a Master's Degree in Education from Charles Sturt
University.
As a coach Michael has served as a Technical Coach at various
clubs and is presently a Technical Assistant with Aurora Youth
Soccer Club. He also had the opportunity to serve as an Assistant
Coach for Ryerson University in CIS. He has worked with elite youth
programs, coaching with 'Team OYSL' which participated in the
Disney Showcase and with the York Region Soccer Association's
District Development Program as a District Coach.
As a player Michael was involved in Junior National Team Programs,
received an athletic scholarship to the U.S. and played in the
Canadian Soccer League for both the York Region Shooters and the
Metro Lions Soccer Clubs.
Lastly, Michael teaches Physical Health Education in the secondary
school system in Toronto.
"We are so pleased that we did not have to go any further than our
own coaching staff to acquire a head coach of such a high caliber,"
said Fox. "His technical skills are outstanding, and he quickly
develops strong relationships with the players starting as early as
the recruiting stage. This is a very good recipe for any
program."
Joining him on the Hawk coaching staff are very experienced Humber
assistant coaches Jason Mesa and Rick
Fonseca. Sanchez will remain with the team in an advisory
role. This adds up to a very strong leadership group, one that will
lead Humber to continued success.
