OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College men's soccer head coach
Stan Bombino is proud to announce the addition of
goalkeeper Michael Ashfield (Whitby, Ont.) and
defender Marc Aloe (Oshawa, Ont.) to the line-up
for the 2013 season.
"I'm looking forward to this year as we add new recruits who will
join nine returning players including all-stars Marco
Trotta and captain Duncan Mitchell," said
Bombino. "I've scouted both Michael and Marc and I'm confident that
they will strengthen the squad as we build off of last year's
success."
Ashfield played club soccer with Whitby Iroquois U18 A team under
head coach Jens Kraemer and goalkeeper coach Paul Nesbit. His team
won back-to-back Ontario Cup Tier II titles in 2011 and 2012 and
also won their league in 2012. The team has competed in a number of
high-level tournaments and will be travelling overseas in England
and Scotland this summer.
Ashfield also started for the All-Saints Catholic Secondary School
where he led his team to an LOSSA championship in 2010. He was the
team captain and won the coaches award at the end of the season.
Ashfield is enrolling in the Firefighter - Pre-Service program this
fall.
Aloe currently plays for the Wexford U21 hi-profile team in the
Ontario Soccer League. The squad won the Central Division last year
and were promoted to the Regional Division for the 2013 season.
His teams have had plenty of success in the past as they won the
Peterborough City Challenge Cup and were CESL Turul Knights
Champions. He has also travelled internationally practicing with
semi-professional teams in Italy. Aloe is enrolling in General Arts
and Science this fall.
This past fall, the Lords advanced to the OCAA opening round of
the playoffs where they defeated Cambrian in Sudbury to advance to
the round of eight.
Durham will open up training camp in August in preparation for the
5th annual Campus Cup which is scheduled for Sept. 5 against the
UOIT Ridgebacks.
