BOMBINO CALLS IT A CAREER AS DURHAM MEN'S SOCCER HEAD COACH

OSHAWA, Ont. - Stan Bombino has been at the helm of the Durham College men's soccer program since the fall of 1998, which makes 16 seasons of coaching in the OCAA for the former Lords star who led the league in scoring as a player during the 1977-78 season. The recent end to the 2013 OCAA soccer season will now also mark the end of an overall positive college coaching career for Bombino at Durham College.

Recently retired from his long career with the Ministry of Revenue, Bombino will be stepping down from his role as head coach to pursue several other challenges he wants to focus his time on, including spending extra time with his family.

"The commitment and time involved in coaching a college varsity program is enormous and it takes away an incredible amount of time from family to do so," said Durham College athletic director Ken Babcock. “Stan's commitment to our program for the past 16 years has been tremendous. He enjoyed coaching at the college level and was a positive role model for numerous student-athletes during that time."

During Bombino's 16 years at Durham College, the Lords men's soccer program posted an overall record of 119-66-20, won two OCAA regional titles and captured a CCAA national bronze medal in 1999.

Mario, Stan's brother, has served as lead assistant coach for all 16 years, providing great support to his brother and the Durham College program. Both will be missed.

A formal search to secure a new men's soccer head coach will begin immediately.
