SENECA 6, LA CITE 2

TORONTO - Not to be deterred by a last minute loss on Saturday, the Seneca Sting battled hard for 90 minutes and flexed their muscle against the La Cité Coyotes, winning 6-2 in an infraction-filled match.

To say the match was played aggressively would be an understatement. Nine yellow cards and one red card were issued during the match as well as a number of minor infractions were committed. Despite the physicality of this afternoon's match, Mauricio Chamalé was able to notch two goals while Joey Amato (Vaughan), Brandon Mills (Richmond Hill), Malven Francis (Pickering) and David Lorthkipanidze (Toronto) each netted one apiece.

Amato opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Coyotes goalkeeper Gabriel Rheault was unable to control a shot from the Sting and Amato pounced on the loose ball to tap it into the back of the net.

Lorthkipanidze added to the Sting lead in the 22nd minute on a beautiful play. Nick Sonsini (Ottawa) ever-so-slightly directed the ball ahead to Chamalé who found Lorthkipanidze on the two-on-one for the goal.

Just two minutes later, Mills joined the party followed by Chamalé's first of the game, just before halftime in the 45th minute. Following a red card, La Cité was forced to play the final 60 minutes one man short.

The Coyotes put a scare into the home crowd with a pair of goals in the second half's opening 10 minutes, each by Sinisa Sindik. The latter came on a penalty kick.

Despite subbing out six starters at the half, the Sting were able to weather the storm and bounce back. Francis added a goal in the 75th minute following a pass from Chamalé. Francis kicked the ball ahead once and then fired on the run past the Coyotes replacement goalkeeper, Serge Goita.

Miscommunication nearly led to a third Coyotes goal as Sting goalkeeper Tiago Santos and Nicholas Gonzalez could not decide who was going to take the ball. Claude Lutula took a shot, but Alex Needs (Toronto) stopped the ball on the goal line. Chamalé capped the scoring in injury time following a two-on-none breakaway with Goita having no chance on the play.

The Sting are off until Friday when they travel to play the St. Lawrence Vikings at 4:30 p.m. The Coyotes also play their next match Friday when they welcome George Brown at 8 p.m.
