MOHAWK 4, LAMBTON 0

ANCASTER, Ont. - It was a good night for both of Mohawk's soccer teams as they blanked the the visiting Lambton Lions of Sarnia.

The Mountaineer women got a first half goal from Shari Leavitt (Mississauga) and a goal from Rachelle DeJong (Ancaster), early in the second half, for a 2-0 victory over the Lions.

Nicole Roberts (Ancaster) and Jenn Lynch (Caledonia) each played one half to share the shutout, as the Mohawk women won their first game of the season after dropping their first two matches. Lambton is 1-1-1.

The Mountaineer men scored twice in each half for a 4-0 whitewash of Lambton. Mohawk's Mark Sannzzaros (Hamilton) was allowed to dribble for several yards along the Lions' byline before passing to Patryk Korbut (Barrie) who opened the scoring. Anthony Halm (Brampton) doubled the count to 2-0 on a penalty.

In the second half, Korbut's hard drive deflected into the Lambton net. For Korbut, it was his fifth goal in two games, both Mohawk victories. Venroy Baird (Hamilton) scored the final goal in stoppage time. Rookie goalkeeper Taylor Robertson (Burlington) registered the shutout.

Mohawk is now 2-1 while Lambton is 1-2.

The Mountaineers now host St. Clair Saturday (Sept. 21). The women kick off at 5 p.m. and the men at 7 p.m. at the Redeemer Sports Complex on Garner Road in Ancaster.
