SENECA 6, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 0

KINGSTON, Ont. - In the first annual Soccer Spirit Day at St. Lawrence College (SLC), the women's and men's Vikings squads faced a tough OCAA East Division opponent, the Seneca College Sting.

In front of a great home crowd, the Vikings women's team battled hard for a full 90 minutes against Seneca but could not find the back of the net, losing the game 2-0. It was not for a lack of trying, as the Vikings had several opportunities to get on the score sheet but was very unlucky in their efforts.

"We didn't capitalize on three opportunities in the first half, and in the 43rd minute, Seneca scores to end the half. It could have been a very different game if we had scored on those opportunities, and it came back to bite us in the end. That's the way soccer works unfortunately," said St. Lawrence head coach Natasha Agaoglu.

"The girls did everything that was asked of them by the coaches. They played their hearts out today trying to get a win for this great crowd," Agaoglu added.

The Vikings men's squad entered their game on a high note, coming off their impressive 4-1 victory over the visiting La Cité Coyotes last weekend, but were unable to produce similar results this Saturday afternoon. The Sting took full advantage of having a more experienced group, and utilized their speed and ball movement to route St. Lawrence by a score 6-0.

"Tonight was a tough game for us. We knew we were going to have to work hard and battle with this team to earn a victory today, but it was just not in the cards for us as they capitalized on the opportunities they had, while we missed on a few of our own," said Vikings head coach Steve Douglas.

SLC won't have much time to rest, as both teams travel to Peterborough to face the Fleming College Knights. Women's game starts at 1 p.m., with the men's game beginning at 3 p.m.
