SHERIDAN 4, CONESTOGA 1

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Over the course of 90 minutes they created more than their share of scoring opportunities, but ultimately what set the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (4-0-1 OCAA) apart from Conestoga was an eight-minute stretch early in the first half when Sheridan scored twice, triggering a 4-1 triumph.

"I thought we played very well," Sheridan assistant coach Miles O'Connor said. "We played a team game and tried to keep things as simple as possible and that's what we ended up doing."

The Double-Blue opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Darragh Roe cracked one from the top of the box and, after Mathew Santos alertly ducked out of the ball's path, it found the top left corner.

Sheridan quickly re-gained possession after the kick-off and Nicholas Lindsay nearly put them two goals clear within a two-minute span, but his attempt clanged off the inside portion of the post and bounced out.

Conestoga took advantage of the Sheridan missed opportunity and would equalize in the 15th minute after a Bruin turnover near midfield.

That newfound level score wouldn't last long however, as the homeside pulled back in front in the 19th minute when Roe threaded a pass to Santos making a back post run for the easy one-touch goal.

Their lead would swell to two goals before the half, when Lindsay was able to add his seventh goal of the season in the 37th minute.

The ball was crossed into the area off the left wing, which caught the Conestoga keeper flat-footed in his attempt to intercept, and required Lindsay only to run on to it and tap it into the yawning net.

The margin would stay that way at the half, but the Bruins quickly made it 4-1 early in the second half, with Lindsay supplying the finish once again.

A long ball played in from the half sent him in alone against the keeper, and he made no mistake in slotting it in the lower left corner.

They had a few more quality opportunities to add to their total - included another shot that rang off the woodwork - but were unable to find the necessary touch.

After having just two days off after their last contest against Humber, the club will now have a full three days before hosting Mohawk during Sheridan Homecoming on Sept. 28 (4 p.m.).

O'Connor says that with the success they've had early on this season, they won't look to go away from that as they prepare.

"We'll keep it the same way," he said. "We'll keep the same style we've had since day one - trying to maintain possession - and from there we'll just try to execute and try to get the result."
