KINGSTON, Ont. - Facing the No. 1 college in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA), the Vikings men's soccer team came into their game against Centennial College knowing they were going to have a great start, in order to have a chance against the Colts.

Compared to the last home game against Seneca College, where SLC appeared flatfooted and behind the play, the Vikings came ready to play with excellent scoring opportunities early in the game. Throughout the first half, the Vikings would apply constant ball pressure, giving Colts players no free space with ball and limited scoring chances.

While the first half was very physical, the referees put their whistles away and let the players play, resulting in a fantastic 45 minutes of soccer for the Vikings. Just before the final whistle, SLC found them selves outnumbered on a quick break by the Colts, who would capitalize to go up 1-0 at the half.

The second half featured more fast and physical soccer, with St. Lawrence coming close on a number of opportunities but could never find the back of the net and would have to settle with the 1-0 loss.

"This was a tough one to lose today. The guys played their hearts out to steal a win from Centennial, but we just could not get the bounces to go our way," said Vikings head coach Steve Douglas.

"We did everything perfectly today. Forcing tough shots, while creating great scoring opportunities. Personally, for me, this felt like a win for us. We just played a amazing game and gave the first place team in the province a good scare." Douglas added.

The Vikings will travel to Sudbury on Sunday, Sept. 29 to play the Cambrian College Golden Shield. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
