ST. CLAIR 1, CONESTOGA 0

AMHERSTBURG, Ont. - The St. Clair College Saints men's and women's varsity soccer teams hosted the Conestoga College Condors at the United Communities Credit Union Complex in Amherstburg on Saturday afternoon.

In the women's match, the Saints got off to a great start scoring in the ninth minute on a nice goal by Nicole Hay (Wexford Collegiate-Toronto). Conestoga tied it up in the 36th minute.

The Saints went ahead 2-1 on Hay's second goal of the game in the 65th minute. The Condors bounced back quickly and tied it up in the 73rd minute. Conestoga got the winning goal with only three minutes left on a fortunate bounce off a free kick.

The St. Clair women are now 0-3-1 on the season while Conestoga improved to 3-1-2. The Condors are ranked fifth in Ontario.

In the men's match, the Saints ended up pulling out a hard fought 1-0 win in a great soccer match.

St. Clair scored their lone goal on a beautiful free kick by Jordan Lidia (Cardinal Carter) in the fourth minute of play. The Saints managed to hold on for the rest of the game with keeper Shane Beaton (Walkerville) making a couple of key tough saves late in the game.

St. Clair now has two wins, one loss and two draws on the season so far. Conestoga fell to 0-5-1 on the season.

Their next home match is Sunday, Sept. 29 when the face the top ranked Humber Hawks. The women kick off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
