ALGONQUIN 2, DURHAM 0

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Algonquin College on Friday at Vaso's Field before defeating La Cite College 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

Friday saw a physical game early as Algonquin had several free kick opportunities which the Lords were able to defend until the 22nd minute when Algonquin converted a free kick to take the 1-0 lead. For the remainder of the half, the Lords had several opportunities to tie the game including a strike from Marco Trotta (Oshawa, Ont.) which found the goal post in the 32nd minute.

Looking for a spark late in the half, the Lords substituted in Richie Khasow (Ajax, Ont.) who provided exactly that. Khasow had two near goals including a header in the 43rd minute and a strike that went just wide of the goal in extra time of the first half.

The second half saw much of the same as opportunities seemed to be solely found in set pieces. Both teams were awarded several free kicks and corners as they continued to battle for possession. Algonquin converted a corner in the 56th minute to take a 2-0 lead while the Lords were unlucky in their efforts.

Saturday saw a reinvigorated squad take the field for the Lords. After an early goal by La Cite in the 13th minute, the Lords began to dominate possession.

Daniel Sukovski (Whitby, Ont.) led the charge for the Lords winning several headers and generating offensive chances including free kicks that just missed the mark in the 62nd and 73rd minute.

Sukovski's effort provided openings for Durham as they tied the game early in the second half with a goal from Khasow before pulling away with goals from Luke Morrison (Ajax, Ont.) in the 63rd minute and Trotta in the 76th minute.

Michael Ashfield (Whitby, Ont.) was in goal for Durham in both games.

Durham is 4-2-0 on the season and in a tie for third place in the OCAA East region standings with the Seneca Sting (4-1-0).

The Lords will next travel to face George Brown College on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
