HUMBER 1, FANSHAWE 0

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe men's soccer team lost 1-0 to the Humber Hawks in their first league game of the year. Last season, Humber won both the provincial and national men's soccer championships.

Both teams had some great chances early in the game. In the 24th minute, Fanshawe goalkeeper Luke Siroen made a diving save on what would have been a sure goal for Humber to keep the game tied. The teams were very evenly matched and went into the half still tied 0-0.

Early in the second half, Humber had three consecutive corner kicks but again Siroen and the Falcons denied the Hawks attack. In the 58th minute, Humber finally put one past Fanshawe with a goal by Humber's Jesse Assing. Siroen provided some outstanding goalkeeping to keep the Falcons in the game but Fanshawe couldn't put one into the back of the net and the Hawks won with a final score of 1-0.

Next Wednesday, Sept. 10, the Falcons take on the Redeemer Royals (0-1) in Ancaster, Ont. The game begins at 8 p.m.
