ANCASTER, Ont. - Another home game for the Redeemer men's soccer team and a few more points to add to their total. The Royals kept their undefeated home record intact with a dramatic 3-2 win over their Hamilton, Ont., neighbour, Mohawk College.

The Royals (2-2-1 OCAA) came from 2-0 down with three unanswered goals in Saturday's match as the team continues to grow in confidence. There never seems to be a dull moment for the Redeemer men's team this season and head coach Kyle Grootenboer thinks that the team is just getting going. "We are starting to gel and make better decisions," commented Grootenboer. "We are happy with the win today, but even more excited that we haven't reached our full potential yet."

Josh Elgeti continued his impressive start to the 2014 season with a brace against the Mountaineers scoring in the 19th and 60th minutes. Lewis Tuininga also scored for the Royals in the 23rd minute as he now has goals in consecutive games.

The game saw four goals take place within the span of just 13 minutes as Mohawk opened the scoring in the 10th minute (Mark Sannzzaros) before following it up a minute later with a goal from Kevin Melo. "We had a very shaky start to the game and it took us a bit to get settled and play our way," said Grootenboer. "Mohawk is a good team with plenty of skill and they punished us early. It was a huge win for us today to be able to come from behind."

The win puts the Royals in fourth place in the OCAA West division behind Humber, Sheridan and St. Clair. Redeemer currently sits in the driver's seat in regards to clinching a playoff spot and much of their season will come down to next weekend when they travel to St. Clair and Lambton on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Royals saw an early goal against result in a 1-0 loss at home today against Mohawk in their match. A fourth minute goal from Michele DiDionsio gave the visiting side the lead and proved to be the difference in a tight match where the Royals outshot Mohawk 7-5.

Redeemer has struggled early in their matches conceding a goal within the first 12 minutes of the match in four of its five games. The one match that the Royals held off their opponent from scoring early, they won.

The Lady Royals season will come down to the upcoming weekend at St. Clair and Lambton as they will be searching for two wins to put themselves back in contention for a playoff spot.

With today's win, the Mountaineers leapfrog the Royals into sixth place while Redeemer moves out of a playoff spot and into seventh.

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Mohawk soccer teams divided their two results in OCAA play at Redeemer on Saturday.

The Mountaineer women edged the host Royals 1-0 as Michele DiDionisio's fourth-minute marker, on a Raman Gill cross held up the rest of the way.

Newcomer Steph Rasic recorded the shutout.

The Mohawk men looked like they were in business when Mark Sannzzaros scored in the 10th minute and Kevin Melo doubled the margin a minute later. But Redeemer came storming back to win 3-2. Josh Elgeti scored in the 19th minute and Lewis Tuininga hammered home a half-volley from close range in the 23rd minute.

Both teams missed penalties a little over a minute apart about 11 minutes into the second half and Elgeti scrambled home what proved to be the Royal's winner in the 60th minute.

Chris Taylor of Mohawk hit the goalpost with eight minutes left and the Mountaineers carried the play until the final whistle, but couldn't come up with an equalizer.
