KINGSTON, Ont. - The St. Lawrence Vikings men's soccer team saved their best performance of the season for the last game of the regular season, defeating the visiting Fleming College Knights 3-0 on Saturday. The victory was more than important than just avoiding a winless season, as the Vikings jumped from last place in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) East Division, to sixth place.

Gabe Jones scored a beautiful goal coming down the wing and blasting the ball by the Knights keeper in the 52nd minute. Just 10 minutes later, Jones got in on another goal, stripping the Knights defender of the ball and passing to Jeff Borges who tucked it in on the far post.

The Vikings relaxed for a five-minute stretch that resulted in SLC goalkeeper making a number of fantastic saves that kept the Knights of the board.

Jones would score on a penalty kick in the 81st minute that put any chance at a comeback to an end.

The improved finish means the Vikings can clinch a post-season berth for the second consecutive year if George Brown goes winless in its final two games. Details surrounding their OCAA qualifying game have yet to be confirmed by the league, for the moment SLC will likely face the fourth place, 3-1-2, Centennial College Colts.

In their previous match, the Vikings were up 2-1 until a questionable penalty kick call in the 80th minute that allowed the Colts to tie the game 2-2.
